Nay's (not his real name) mother was shot dead by a group of Burmese troops while they were traveling from Burma to Thailand for his schooling.

Nay walked barefoot with a group of villagers for a week to reach Htam Hin refugee camp.

Nay said while they were attacked, he lost his shoes and his cloths and 1500 Thai baht that his mother brought with her.

In his village which was forcibly relocated by Burmese troops, his parents couldn't afford to send him to school. It was difficult for his parents to earn a living because of military restriction and various extortions. There is only a primary school up to grade four in the village. To continue his school he has to go to another village which far away and will cost more expenses for his parents. So he decided to come to therefugee camp.

He said, "I asked my mother that I want to come and study in refugee camp and she agreed. Every year I got second or third in my class while I was in my village. I will finish grade ten and go back to my village and work for my community."
