Karen New Year 2743 (2003) celebration in Htam Hin refugee camp, Older Karen people try to preserve and promote their Karen tradition and culture such as dress, new year celebration, way of living etc. Because there are no jobs in the camp and little further education opportunities after high school many young men and women find their way to Thailand and fishing boats to earn money. Some camp leaders and elders worry about those young people and the influences of Thai culture and society and TV. The elders fear that the Karen people will imitate what they see and bring it to the camp and teach it to their friends, especially children.
